She Jumped
My mom was an extraordinary diver. While she doesn’t always come clean with the truth, she was one of the best. One, two, three, jump. That was her miracle. She jumped. She not only jumped but she jumped forwards, backwards, inwards and any where in between. Nothing seemed too high for her. She was at home on the 1 meter and 3 meter boards as well as the 10 meter platform. She’d walk to the end of the platform, raise herself to a handstand, hold for five seconds and then push herself off while flipping towards the water.
I watch my children jump all the time and while it takes on many forms, they do jump. Metaphorically speaking, they sometimes walk around the edge of the pool, dip their toes in, watch for a moment, and then jump. Other times they remind me of the characters from Looney Tunes. They sprint towards the edge of the cliff and once they reach the edge, they come to a screeching halt. Somehow their excitement and curiosity got them to the edge, but once they arrived, their fear and anxiety takes over and it feels that much harder. BUT… they jump (97.3% of the time;)).
So readers, you know where this is going? Do you jump? and how often? HUGE CONFESSION…. I STINK at jumping. Starting @love7rising was a jump. Writing my story is a jump AND trying a bite of the fish my son caught was also a jump! No matter the size, our souls are wired for this…. and it’s only our human conditioning that likes to wrestle us to the ground (larger topic for another time).
If you have a moment, give yourself space to remember the times you went for it… the times you took the plunge. Sometimes it feels like a casual jump off the one meter board (trying new foods, walking a different path to work) and other times it feels like the 10 meter platform (a huge life change). In this space, can you hear your inner light? Can you hear your own truth? Where are you meant to jump and perhaps you’re still bouncing on the end of the board?
Thank you to my mom and Luke and Harley for inspiring this post. I’m grateful for all the times you’ve jumped.
