Building Something Beautiful

One of the biggest lessons I learned in my own teaching was noticing the ways my inner turmoil affected how I showed up each day.   If I was feeling out of sorts, most often I had to muscle through and deal with it later. But here’s the thing, that energy doesn’t just go away. Just because I tried to store it in my own internal freezer, I was energetically still expressing it and I knew my students could feel it.

How could I deliver a lesson on kindness when I couldn’t express kindness towards myself?  Or how could I talk to my students about forgiveness when I had my own distorted relationship with it. It didn’t feel authentic and it bothered me to no end.

The disruption caused by the pandemic has been uncomfortable and raw. It has exposed wounds both internally and externally. We have noticed what wasn’t feeling good within ourselves and we are certainly seeing the corruption and dysfunction of our systems at large. Education being a HUGE PLAYER.

We are all aware of the stories of mental health issues among our children and teachers and these stories are leaving us with heavy hearts, anger, frustration, concern and more.  Our children and educators need our collective energy.  They need to KNOW and FEEL UNIVERSAL LOVE.  This is not a temporary thing, but something that can start now and become the new foundation of our schools.

Our attempt at “recovery” can’t be one sided.  When you walk into your child’s school a balanced energy should be felt.  Integrating wellness, mindfulness and social emotional learning can be more than a top down approach but something an educator can experience as well ..yes… during the school day (Wellness breaks, mindfulness coaches just to name a few).

For centuries we have bumped up against the possibility of educating differently.  Great thinkers and philosophers have dared us to stretch our imaginations and picture a new masterpiece~ one that puts heart, connectiveness relationship and creativity at the helm. Please join me in creating a shift. Together, we can walk towards love.
